Center for Progressive Leadership to Host Candidate Training

The Center for Progressive Leadership (CPL) will be hosting a series of forums to help individuals receive the skills and knowledge necessary to run for political office. Whether you're interested in running to become a committeeperson or the next mayor, CPL will help you get started.

The Pennsylvania Local Progressive Candidate Training Program is designed to help individuals develop the skills and resources they need to advance progressive change through local elected office.

This six-part comprehensive training program provides the nuts and bolts of putting together a successful campaign for a local elected position, as well as the fundamentals for implementing progressive policies through elected office. The training is designed for both candidates and campaign managers.

The Pennsylvania Local Progressive Candidate Training Program is sponsored by the Center for Progressive Leadership, Teach for America, Keystone Progress, League of Women Voters and the Committee of Seventy.

The program is being offered for leaders in the Philadelphia and Reading regions.

The Application Deadline is September 1st 2009

The components of the Pennsylvania Local Progressive Candidate Training Program include:
• Three weekend workshops
• Personal Political Leadership Plan
• Coaching
Weekend workshop topics include:
• Communicating Your Vision & Values Through Narrative
• The Nuts & Bolts of Being an Elected Official
• Issues Affecting Progressive Candidates
• Campaign Planning - Preparing to Win and Stay on Track
• Fundraising & Cultivating Donors
• Campaign Financing
• Message Development and Delivery
• Voter Contact
• Panel Discussion with Elected Officials

We will also be running two tracks of the program: one track that for participants in the Philadelphia area and another track for participants in the Reading region.

Note: Individuals registering for this program may not have already filed to run for office.

Dates, Places and Rates

Trainings will be held over the course of three weekend workshops. Participants are expected to coordinate their schedules to ensure their participation in all of the workshops. 2009 workshops dates will be determined shortly.
