Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) is the oldest liberal political organization in the country, founded in 1947. From the drafting and adoption of the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter in 1951 to the movement to recall Mayor Frank Rizzo, the history of Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of ADA, is the history of progressive politics in Philadelphia. We continue to strive to be a leading local watchdog for Progressive Values, Good Government and the Advancement of Democracy.

I came upon this memorial by chance; I didn't know Lenora had passed away. I hadn't seen her in almost 45 years, but I remember her - and Norman - vividly. I was a member of the Center City Reform Democrats group from its inception.I was just talking this past evening about how we took over our ward from the Rizzo machine and then elected Norman to the Pennsylvania legislature. This was my first real introduction to activist progressive politics and an unforgettable and life-changing experience for me. It also was - and is - an important example of what can be done when people really are committed to their democratic principles and work hard to achieve them.
